All our full time members of staff work 8-6, the same days every week, for 4 days of the week. This benefits the children as there is always a fresh member of staff on each area. We find this method enhances our staff’s ability to always be calm, happy and enthusiastic.
Liz Byatt – Owner and Founder
Liz is the founder and owner of The Children’s Room. She was born and brought up in Swansea and after spending eighteen years away returned with her husband and son. She trained at the Montessori Centre in London twenty four years ago and has worked in schools in London and the Far East. While living in Singapore she worked in a multicultural school for two years.
Liz says “It was my ambition to bring Montessori to Wales. And now with the new Baby Room, and holiday opening hours we really are becoming established and part of Swansea parents lives”.
Sharon Jones – Manager
Sharon is a highly experienced manager with over 20 years in childcare.
As a mum of two and having worked in both public and private nurseries she brings a wealth of expertise to the team. She is motivated and strives to ensure our high standards are maintained.
Warm and caring, she understands how difficult it can be for parents to leave their children and endeavors to make this process as comfortable as possible.
Polly Heap – Nursery Nurse
Polly is much loved by the children and parents alike; she has a gentle and caring nature just perfect for the babies. Having graduated with an English Degree, Polly soon realised her true vocation was working with children. She has been at nursery for almost three years and especially loves cuddles and singing with the babies.
Natalie Agravante – Nursery Nurse
Natalie graduated from University of Mindanao in the Philippines with a degree in commerce. Before coming to live in Swansea and studying for her childcare qualification, she worked in Singapore as a live in nanny and mother’s help. Natalie brings a wealth of experience to the baby room having looked after expatriate children for over twenty years, in a multicultural environment.
Joanne Benfield – Montessori Teacher
Joanne lived in Abu-Dhabi for nine years. She first came to The Children’s Room as a student when studying for her Montessori Teaching Diploma. Now a fully qualified Montessori teacher she joined the team on a full time basis in December 2014 and is loved by everyone for her energetic, cheerful personality.
Natalie Anderson – Nursery Nurse
Natalie graduated with a triple distinction in Level 3 ‘Childcare, Learning and Development’ from Gower College Swansea in 2012. Natalie then continued on to achieve 3 years experience in a nursery setting as well as becoming qualified in British Sign Language. Natalie now leads the team on Pre-Nursery and her happy, creative and outgoing personality is welcomed by all at The Children’s Room.
Jade Willis – Nursery Nurse
Jade joined the team as a volunteer in 2009 and went on to become Baby Room leader. Jade then moved to Dubai to live and manage a nursery for 18 months. She is now back to pursue her career in childcare / midwifery. Jade is a qualified play worker with a Level 5 in Childcare, Leadership and Management and a degree in Educational Studies.
Louise Hodge – Nursery Nurse
Louise is part of our team on Nursery floor. Louise worked for just over 8 years as a senior nursery nurse progressing to manager in a nursery in Cornwall before moving to Swansea. Louise is qualified in Level 4 child care.
Sarah Birch – Nursery Teacher
Sarah studied for her degree in Performing Arts at Middlesex university. Since then Sarah has gone on to gain her PGCE in Swansea and has been teaching in nurseries and primary schools for the past 9 years. Sarah enjoys singing, playing guitar and all things arts and crafts which is put to great use on nursery floor where Sarah teaches music lessons and works on art projects with the children.
Helen Forth – Nursery Nurse
Helen moved from Birmingham to study Technical Theatre at University in Swansea and has lived here ever since. Since graduating Helen has gone on to working with children and young people for the past 5 years, teaching dance, drama and technical theatre. Helen also gained qualifications in Youth Work and Childcare. Helen brings her creativity to the team on Pre-Nursery floor and can usually be found creating artwork with the children or dancing and singing.
Rosie McArdle – Nursery Nurse
Rosie is a new addition to The Children’s Room team after joining in February 2016. Rosie cares for the babies on Tess Bear floor and has completed her Level 3 in childcare. In the future Rosie is looking to progress onto her Level 4.
Rebecca Legg – Nursery Nurse
Rebecca first joined the team in September 2014 and is currently studying her Level 3 in childcare. Rebecca has a five year old son which means she has first-hand experience in caring for young children. In September 2016 Rebecca plans to attend University to study her Foundation Degree in Early Years. Mainly based on the nursery floor Rebecca enjoys bringing new ideas for arts and crafts projects for the children to create.
Amy Maddick – Nursery Nurse
Amy started at The Children’s Room as a volunteer four years ago, she is now a permanent member of staff caring mainly for our baby and pre-nursery children. Amy is currently studying for her Level 6 Children and Young People Foundation Degree in University Wales Trinity Saint David. The babies and staff alike both love her bubbly and energetic personality!
Sharmin Ahmed – Nursery Nurse
Sharmin has been part of The Children’s Room team for 3 years, starting as a student and is now a permanent member of staff. Sharmin has gained a Level 3 in Childcare and Education, Level 2 in Health and Social Care and is currently in University studying Psychology and Education.
