All our full time members of staff work 8-6, the same days every week, for 4 days of the week. This benefits the children as there is always a fresh member of staff on each area. We find this method enhances our staff’s ability to always be calm, happy and enthusiastic.
Liz Byatt – Owner and Founder
Liz is the founder and owner of The Children’s Room. She was born and brought up in Swansea and after spending eighteen years away returned with her husband and son.
She trained at the Montessori Centre in London twenty four years ago and has worked in schools in London and the Far East. While living in Singapore she worked in a multicultural school for two years.
“It was my ambition to bring Montessori to Wales. And now with the new Baby Room, and holiday opening hours we really are becoming established and part of Swansea parents lives”.
Sharon Jones – Manager
Sharon is a highly experienced manager with over 20 years in childcare.
As a mum of two and having worked in both public and private nurseries she brings a wealth of expertise to the team. She is motivated and strives to ensure our high standards are maintained.
Warm and caring, she understands how difficult it can be for parents to leave their children and endeavors to make this process as comfortable as possible.

Emma has been with us in the Children’s Room for over 8 years and is a qualified NNEB with over 20 years’ experience with children including time spent working in Australia. Emma’s principle focus is with the children on the Rupert Floor. In her spare time Emma loves to swim and practice yoga when time allows as a mother of 4 children.
Lucy is a qualified primary school teacher and has worked with children of all ages before deciding to specialise in early year’s education. She most enjoys being part of the children’s learning journeys and how, together we can always challenge ourselves to support them through it.
Chloe joined the Children’s Room in 2017 having been attracted to the Montessori approach as part of her advanced apprenticeship in childcare. Have gained her qualifications she continues to be a valued member of the team bringing a mature approach to the many challenges that daily nursery life presents.
Amy became part of the team in 2013 whilst studying for her BSc in Children & Young People. Post qualification, Amy works on both the Rupert and Tess floors and is most comfortable being hands on helping parents new to the nursery setting. She is also a big fan of the music sessions (Baby Shark being a favourite) and plans to commence formal Montessori training in the future.
Rachel has 17 years’ experience within the childcare arena having gained her diploma in Childcare and Education in 2002. Since then she has worked in both local schools and private day care settings and in 2010 graduated for the University of Glamorgan with an upper class degree in Childhood Studies. Outside of nursery, Rachel enjoys spending time with her 3 very busy boys.
Barbara joined the Children’s Room as a student in 2018. Prior to moving to Swansea 3 years ago, she worked in Poland for the Sports Rehabilitation Association and gained over 6 years’ experience working with both children and adults with disabilities using sport as a method to improve development. Barbara is currently studying for her Level 3 Childcare, Learning and Development qualification at Gower College.
Rosie has worked on all 3 floors of the nursery and is Level 3 qualified and progressing towards her team leader qualification. She is a valued member of the team and finds it easy to form good relationships with both parents alike with her calm approach.
Anna has been with the Children’s Room for 4 years and contributes to the smooth running of all 3 floors. She brings her love of dancing and art to her day to day interaction with the children and builds strong bonds with both the children and the other members of staff. Anna also designs greeting cards that are for sale across Swansea and is a member of a choir.
Alexandra started working on the Tess floor with our babies in March 2019 and has over 11 years childcare experience after qualifying from Norland College in 2008. Alexandra is NVA Level 3 qualified with a Norland Diploma and a diploma of Higher Education in Early Childhood Studies. After gaining experience working with many families in the UK (many of whom she is still in contact with), Alexandra completed a BA Hons (2:1) in Early Childhood Studies in 2014 and a Level 4 Maternity Nursing qualification in 2015! After working as a maternity nurse for 4 years, she moved to Wales and is now a valuable part of the Children’s Room team.
Victoria has spent the last 8 years before joining the Children’s Room as a stay at home Mum enjoying and educating her 3 children. Having children inspired her to learn and understand more about education and she has recently completed her level 3 nursery nurse qualifications. Life outside of nursery is kept busy with her family enjoying family life on the farm.
Ej graduated from Cardiff University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering but working with children was her real passion. Subsequently, two years later she passed her Montessori Early Years qualifications and has spent the past 18 years working in children’s education. She has two children of her own and enjoys playing guitar, music, painting, photography and swimming.
Lucy is a qualified childcare worker who has been part of the Children’s Room team for 6 years. Based on the Rupert Floor she brings a wealth of experience having spent over 20 years working as a nanny, childminder and in other nursery settings as well as being a mother of 3 children.
Natalie is a Commerce graduate from the University of Mindanao in the Philippines. She worked as a nanny in Singapore for 20 years before moving to the UK in 2003. She is one of the original staff members of the Children’s Room, having started there in 2007. Her experience and knowledge of nursery has been built from its inception as just two rooms catering for mornings only to the present busy environment.
An interest in the Montessori education method began after reading Maria Montessori’s book, “The secret of childhood”. Consequently, in 2002, Tracey graduated as a Montessori teacher and then continued her professional development by studying through the Open University to gain a B.A (Hons) degree in Early Childhood studies.
After completing a degree in English literature and creative writing, Victoria went on to follow a career in education with a specific passion for alternative learning approaches. She gained a level 3 qualification in Forest School leadership alongside various seasons in outdoor education centres. Whilst studying for her level qualification in Childcare Learning and Development, she joined the Children’s Room and is now aiming to further her education with a Level % or PGCE in Early Years. During time away from the nursery, you will find her reading a good book, attempting to surf or walking her crazy rescue dog.
