Natural Materials

Today the children have started their project about natural materials. They have been working with soil, clay, chalks, sand, shells, leaves and tiny stones. The children have been pulverizing, sifting, moulding and mixing these materials to understand about how they can manipulate such matter to experiment with form, texture and transformation to stimulate imaginative activity as well as develop their knowledge about the everyday materials they see and touch in their environment.

They used tools that included sieves, rolling pins, pestle and mortars, spoons, whisks and wooden meat hammers. This project is ongoing whereby the children will eventually create palettes containing the fine powders and the recompacted materials to create their own end piece, to tell their own unique stories.
