Based in Uplands, Swansea, the Children's Room is a privately run Montessori school.  It is the first nursery school in South Wales run according to the unique child-centred Montessori approach to early education.

Founded by Liz Byatt, the nursery's four staff bring over 15 years of experience in nursery education and Montessori principles to the new school

Located in the peaceful environment of St James Gardens, the Children's room has a higher teacher-to-child ratio than many other nurseries and can offer provision through the medium of Welsh.  Liz has seen the success of the Montessori method across the world and has worked in schools in London and the Far East, running a Montessori school in Singapore for two years.   Bringing these principles back home to Wales is a dream she has now realised.

Developed by Dr Maria Montessori, the Montessori educational approach places emphasis on allowing children to achieve their full potential by developing the whole child intellectually, socially, physically, emotionally, linguistically and spiritually.  The aim at the nursery is to give every child the opportunity to do this.

Nursery: Monday to Friday (term time only)
9am to 12 Noon
1245pm to 345pm
9am to 4pm (from September)

By providing the right environment, the Children's room will concentrate on the goal of holistically developing the social and emotional intelligence of the child. Therefore it is not a play-group type of environment but one that prepares the children for the challenges of the future.

The school takes children from the age of 2 years and is open from 9am to 12 noon and 1245 to 4pm during term time.  Due to the high standards that need to be maintained, the nursery will cater for no more than sixteen children at any one time.  Fees are £15* per session with a minimum attendance of two sessions a week.  (*term time only).  Full day sessions rates available on request.

Today, the importance of excellent nursery provision has finally been recognised at Government level and the Montessori method is very much at the forefront of current educational thinking.
